I (sadly) know absolutely nothing about contemporary American literature. Since living overseas, I have however begun to embrace the American classics, most notably Edgar Allen Poe and Mark Twain. Just recently I read the Kaplan stories by Leo Rosten.

P.S. I think you should update your blogger profiles with some lists of your favorite authors, books.

By the way, Todd and I once spent Halloween at Poe's graveside, listening to Fritz Leiber read "The Raven." And I'm glad I got a chance to shake John Cage's hand before he died.
